Ava McLaughlin, the 17-year-old daughter of Larry and Jessica McLaughlin Jr. of Sharon, PA, and the granddaughter of the late Larry McLaughlin and Joyce McLaughlin of Ivydale, WV, received the honor of gold stars which are awarded to cadets and students at The Citadel who received a 3.7 grade point average or higher.
Cadets and students who achieve gold star recognition are also placed on The Citadel’s dean list. Ava accomplished a 4.00. Those cadets will be recognized at the awards parade on January 28, where they will be presented their gold stars, which they may wear on their uniforms throughout the semester following their academic achievement.
