One of only two students to receive a degree from a West Virginia college in the field of Midwifery, Krista E. Parcell, of Maysel, was hooded in a ceremony held for Marshall University School of Nursing students on May 7 at Christ Temple Church in Huntington. Krista, and her classmate Deanna Farmer, were the first two graduates from the Shenandoah University cooperative program to be recognized during the ceremony for receiving a master’s degree with an emphasis on nurse-midwifery. Krista joined 153 students for commencement on Saturday, May 9 at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. Dr. Denise Landry, chair of the nursing school, said Thursday’s ceremony signified “the completion of a long journey and the beginning of a new one.” Krista is the wife of George Lee Parcell and mother to Brady, Joel and Makenna.
