The Calhoun Red Devils were massacred at the battle of Little Bradley Field Friday night as the Panther football team held school on the fine art of playing football. It was probably one of the best wins this season so far. The Panthers went down the middle, ran the perimeters, passed, caught, blocked, tackled and defended better than I have seen for a while; all the players were in tune with what they needed to do to win this game.
Calhoun seemed to be in full destroy mode when they came to the field but was soon turned to help mode. Their attitude quickly changed when they realized the Panthers would not be a pushover going into the final games of the season. Drawing first blood against the Red Devils was Reece Nichols getting the hand off from Alex Grose in the first plays of the game then running virtually untouched for a touchdown. The offensive line once again opened holes that trains could get through and gave Alex Grose plenty of time to throw the ball and the running backs time to do their thing.
The wide receivers were open almost all the time. The defense held the Red Devils to 6 points. The final score was Clay 46, Calhoun 6. The Panthers have outscored their opponents 74-22 in their last three meetings. The team has found its groove and no doubt are wishing they could have some of those games back they played early in the season. The Panthers have a three-game winning streak going into the last game of the season against Webster County. It should be a pretty good matchup. The Panthers could end up 5-5 on the year and that wouldn’t be too bad considering all things that have gone on.
Come out and support the Panthers Friday night.
