The students at H.E. White Elementary hosted their first of many Market Days on May 30. From kindergarten to fifth grade, every class had an amazing craft for sale. This event had students working hard the week prior to prepare their projects. There was an array of crafts to choose from, including suncatchers, handmade soap, candleholders, bubble gum machines, spray paint art, and much more. The students also displayed their produce that had been grown in the school’s greenhouse. They sold purple and yellow cauliflower, broccoli, and green onions. This produce had been tended to and harvested by the students.
When speaking with the children about what they learned from this event, Hollie Conley and Gracie Bass said that this taught them how to work together to make a product, sell the product, and help their school. This fifth grade duo purchased slime making material and spent several hours preparing and packaging 42 containers of slime, which they in return donated their profit back to the fifth grade. Zack Rucker and Luke Faulkner, also fifth graders, handcrafted bird houses and other woodworking projects. Chloe Hammack, fourth grade, showed off her artistic skills in the spray paint art that she created for market day. All of these students worked hard to create custom pieces and learn how to sale their products and communicate with the public at this event. It was a great turn out and the school looks forward to this being an ongoing event for years to come.
The school also offered vendor tables to the public. The Clay High school greenhouse offered a huge selection of flowers and vegetable starters. Other vendors included Trecie Ice with Color Street Polish and the PTO with snacks available for purchase.
