Clay County Commission met for a regularly scheduled meeting on July 11, 2018.
With the previous meeting minutes, the bills and purchase orders as they were presented, and budget revisions approved, the meeting proceeded. Erroneous Assessments were approved for Carl Rader, Randal Parsons and Kings Trucking and Wrecker Service. The last will and testament of Gene Thomas O’Dell, deceased, was confirmed for probating, and Larry A. O’Dell was approved as executor. The last will and testament of Mary Reed Ward, deceased, was confirmed for probating and the appointment of Charles D. Reed and Edward J. Bailey was approved as co-executors.
Voting Precinct 24-Nebo was approved to be permanently moved from the Big Otter Community Center to the Big Otter Fire Department. Teresa Davis, Assessor, was approved to hire Rielly Adisen Taylor as a part-time employee at the rate of $8.75 per hour. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Clay County Commission and the Administrative Office of the Supreme Court of Appeals of WV for providing office space for the Family Court at the rate of $574.50 per month was established.
The commissioners then discussed the severity of the county with concerned citizens who were in attendance, and if things could be done to help with finances or cuts to help with the county budget, as of June 1, 2018 the jail bill was $627,843.39, and continues to grow each day. The county pays what it can, but finances keep getting tighter and tighter.
