The Lady Mustangs are setting fire to the diamond going two and one this past week. The Ladies were on a three game away stretch matching bats and gloves with Calhoun, South Harrison, and Valley Fayette. First up was Calhoun, and with Calhoun upping their game this season they would be a tough matchup…or would they?
The Lady Mustangs are as gifted at softball as Jack the Ripper was with a knife. No matter how you slice the pie, the Lady Mustangs will come out with the biggest piece. Lady Mustang bats started pounding the ball early and didn’t let up, turning round softballs to egg shapes. Calhoun was having a hard time mustering up some offense with the Lady Mustang gloves that were the size of wheel barrels.
However, the Lady Mustangs offered up five early Christmas presents just to give some drama to the game. The Lady Mustangs’ bats continued to dominate the diamond and they took the match 15-5. Next, it was on the road to South Harrison, and the Lady Hawks were reeling from just getting field stomped by Calhoun 16-8.
The Lady Mustangs hit the field running and ran head long into a pumped up South Harrison team that didn’t like the taste of loosing. The Lady Mustangs played a decent game but fell prey to a team whose bats were hotter than their own. The Lady Mustangs dropped their first game for the season 5-15. That didn’t set to well with the Lady Mustangs who took a good look in the mirror and didn’t like the loser face looking back at them. So it was on to Valley for the last road game of the week to butt heads with the Lady Greyhounds.
Roxy Schoolcraft took to the hill for the Lady Mustangs and proceeded to smoke the Lady Greyhounds with combinations of heat and pinpoint pitching… they didn’t know what hit them. She pitched so well that the Lady Mustang team could have eaten their lunch in the field. The Lady Mustangs gave new meaning to “ bats heating up;” it was pandemonium as the Lady Mustangs took out their loss frustrations to South Harrison on the Lady Greyhounds.
The Lady Mustangs scored 16 runs in the first inning as Valley desperately tried to get the Lady Mustangs out. There were inside the park home runs as some of the girls rounded the bases like a 1970 Superbird. It would have been understandable if white towels were tossed onto the diamond, but Valley fought on.
The Lady Mustangs, with no quarter, proceeded to annihilate Valley before the game was called in the third inning. The scoreboard had a hard time resetting as runs hit and crossed home plate like Grandma’s potato salad at a Baptist homecoming. Valley couldn’t answer the call to arms and lost the game 36 to nothing. It has been a great season opener for the Lady Mustangs who have a full week of games this week, as well, if the weather holds out. They will be away at Madison on Monday night and home for a two game stretch Tuesday and Wednesday against Midland Trail and Braxton. Go Lady Mustangs!
