The smoke was raising at Bradley Field as the Lady Mustangs set fire to the diamond, opening the season with the crack of a bat that laid an open wound on the Valley Lady Greyhounds’ season hopes. It was a double header where the Lady Mustangs brought out the whooping sticks and sent the Lady Greyhounds back to their pound. The Lady Mustangs showed no mercy as big gun Rylee Murphy took to the hill and proceeded to fan flames in the catcher’s mitt and burn the Lady Greyhound batters. Simply put, if you can’t see the ball when it crosses the plate, you aren’t going to hit it. Murphy struck out seven batters and had just one batter accidently hit it. Rylee’s reign as queen of the hill lasted just three innings as the Lady Mustangs offense went to work bending aluminum and ending this game in a hurry as Valley fans looked on in disbelief. Jaedon Delwarte brought out the big girl stick and scattered hits all over the field and notched one home run, driving in four runners and scoring three times on her own. Rylee Murphy also went 3 for 3 with a double and two singles driving in three. When it was over and the white towel was thrown in, the Lady Mustangs amassed 17 runs with Valley scoring two.
With that game in the books, the next game put smokin’ Brooklyn Morton on the mound who, since last season, has added quite a bit more speed to her arsenal of pitches. The ball smacked the catcher’s mitt sounding like an M80 going off. The Lady Greyhounds stood no chance; Brooklyn’s brutal all out pitching gave new meaning to fear in a batter’s box. She pitched four innings in another short game and struck out nine of the batters – the girl was pitching head stones. On the bat side of the ball, Brooklyn went 4-4 with a home run, double, two singles, had 5 RBI’s and 3 runs scored. McKinley Mahan also had the hot bat going 4-4 with three doubles and scoring four times with three RBI’s. When the door was shut, the final score was Lady Mustangs 18, Lady Greyhounds 3. The Lady Mustangs got the job done on defense and offense and are turning the diamond into their own private party. They will be back in action on Tuesday when they meet up with Summersville on their turf. They will be back at home on March 25th against Spencer. These games will be a true test for the Lady Mustangs as neither of those teams are easy targets. Come out and support the Lady Mustangs as they set the softball world on fire.
