It was a hot and humid day when we met for our 29th reunion at the Bethel United Methodist Church at Ovapa, and we were thankful for the coolness of the Fellowship Hall.
We are getting fewer each year, but we appreciate the ones who did attend. It was a day of fellowship and good conversation, with meeting some whom we had not seen since last year’s reunion.
It was so good to mingle with old friends, share a hug or two and sometimes shed a tear. Some of the students who attended all eight classes at the grade school went on to four years at Clay County High School and graduated together. This kind of togetherness forges ties that hold us together even into our autumn years. I thank the Lord for our Mrs. Frances White who plans and puts together this yearly reunion, although she was not a Hagar Grade School student. She took on this mighty job for her former husband Richard White, and continues to do this monumental task for us. How we do appreciate her!
She is a wonderful cook also, and prepared many tasty dishes, along with offerings from other ladies. I have always declared that churchwomen are the best cooks in the county! We enjoyed lots of good food along with our sweet conversation with friends and loved ones.
Those attending were Frances White of Ovapa, Cossie and Jean (Givens) Summers of Burbank, Ohio, Linda White Boggs and Tawny Boggs of Rupert, Charlotte Summers Jett of Maysel, Steve Summers of Wooster, Ohio, Jim Summers of Ovapa and girl friend Pat, Jerry Samples of Orangeburg, SC, Sandy White Potasnik, Sylvia Brown Summers and James C. (Windy) King, all of Ovapa.
Also there were Clyde Salyers, Bill Chandler and Carol Walls all of Ohio, Jeuell Beth Everson Igo, Criss and Alyce Faye O’Dell Bragg, George and Lorriane Samples Rose, all of Ovapa, Oliver (Sonny) Arbogast of Elkview, Nancy Spencer of Duck, Mary King Samples of Clay, Jack and June White McCracken of Green, Ohio, Mitchel and Angie Walker Adkins of Ovapa, Hope McKown Slack of the Charleston area, and Bob Thomas of Belle.
It is possible that someone’s name has been omitted, especially if the book wasn’t signed, and we are very sorry if this has happened. Let’s meet again next year and renew old friendships, and have a good time. Don’t forget, we are going down the valley one by one.
