From the 49th annual ramp dinner being a great success, to the students achieving awards for their hard work and dedication to their schoolwork, H.E. White has a lot of good things going on.
The ramp dinner took place on Sunday, May 6, and was one of the best in years. Serving over 800 dinners, this fundraiser brought in some much-needed funds for the schools PTO. This will allow them to provide year end trips for the students, as well as special incentives for perfect attendees as the school year closes. Volunteers, teachers, and parents worked many hours to pull of this massive dinner and it didn’t disappoint.
“It’s definitely not an easy task, but it’s rewarding to know how the children benefit from all this work,” said one volunteer on dinner day. The school would like to thank all of those who helped prepare for this event and the ones who worked the day of. “It couldn’t be done without the communities help, and for that we are extremely grateful,” said PTO president Audrea Gould.
On May 7 the fourth-grade class was recognized for their high interim testing scores. This class was rewarded with a trip to Pizzas and Cream in Big Otter, WV. The owners taught the children how to make pizza in a brick oven and homemade ice-cream. They got to try their hand at making Italian ice, and of course, got to eat the pizzas they made. However, this wasn’t the first go around with this group. Last year’s winners of the testing competition were the same group of kids. They say next year, going into 5th grade, they will win and be back for the third time. A big thank you to Pizzas and Cream for their hospitality.
Recognizing the James G. Dawson hall of fame recipients, several students from H.E. White were inducted into the Hall of fame on Thursday, May 10. Awards in academics and physical activity were given, and these children were recognized for their hard work throughout the school year. Congratulations to all the recipients!
