Attendance in one of the three indicators of student achievement, along with grades and behavior. Students who attend well usually read better, make better grades and are less likely to be involved in disciplinary behavior. They also tend to do better on required testing.
The third school month is led in attendance by Shawn Krajeski’s students at Clay County High School with an outstanding 97.49% average daily attendance. Second place goes to Joann Metheney’s Preschool students at Clay Elementary, with an average of 95.11%.
Honorable mention goes to Stacy Marks’s Preschool students at Big Otter Elementary with a 94.91%; Patrick Black’s students at Clay Middle School with 93.42%; Grithel Burns, Dustin Vaughan and Dillon Vaughan’s 4th and 5th grade students at Big Otter Elementary at 94.34%; Joy Miller’s foreign language students at Clay High School with 93.73%; Tonya Taylor’s 1st grade students at Clay Elementary School with 93.52% and Doug Wayne’s band students at Clay Middle School with 92.23%. Congratulations to all those students for their excellent attendance. Remember a day absent is a day of learning lost forever.
