This past weekend was a big and exciting one for Clay County High School students, as an event they had been eagerly anticipating finally arrived. CCHS Prom 2018 was a huge blast for students and spectators alike. Included are a few photos of some of all of the beautiful dresses, couples, and friends at the prom.
In preparation for prom, each year Clay County High School Students view a mock accident to remind them of the dangers of drinking and driving. On Friday, Clay EMS, Clay VFD, Clay State Police Scott Bass, Kings Wrecker Service, and HealthNet 5 from Ripley worked together to put on a mock accident that shows what can happen in a wreck from drinking and driving.
A fake accident was set up in front of the high school, and students participated in the event by using fake blood and make up to make it look like they had been injured in the wreck. Tones dropped through Clay 911 to advise emergency personnel that an accident had occurred. Clay EMS and VFD were dispatched to respond to 1 Panther Drive, along with state police and Kings Wrecker. Upon arrival and the assessment of the accident, EMTs advised county base that HealthNet was needed. One patient was DOA (dead on arrival). The drunk driver was taken into custody and the passenger of the vehicle was transported to meet HealthNet.
Students then walked down the parking lot to Bradley Field where HealthNet had landed. They let the students peek inside of HealthNet and see how everything looked. Students then moved back to the other side of the field away from the helicopter and they proceeded with the demonstration. They loaded a “patient” who was being airlifted due to a femur break. Superintendent Joe Paxton got to ride along as well. HealthNet took off and then returned a few moments later.
This is a lot of demonstration to take in because there are a lot of details and steps to follow when an accident happens. Hopefully this made students understand the dangers of drinking and driving. There were no accidents reported pertaining to prom on Saturday night, making for a fun filled, successful night!
Thank you to all that participated to make this event happen, Clay EMS, Clay VFD, Clay State Police Officer Scott Bass, Kings Wrecker and HealthNet 5 from Ripley.
