The Clay County Board of Education held their regular meeting on Monday, March 25 at 6 p.m. at Clay County Middle School. Members present included Dave Mullins, President; David Pierson, Vice-President; Morgan Triplett, Cheryl White, and Susan Bodkins, Members.
Items on the agenda included: approve Proposed Levy Order for the 2019-2020 school year, approve resignation of personnel, approve employment of personnel, approve Clay County High School Skills USA Students and Chaperones to travel to Fairmont State College for WV Skills USA Contest, approve the out of state/overnight trip for Gifted Students and Chaperones to Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, PA, approve volunteer coach for Track at Clay County High School, meet with the Clay County Middle School LSIC, and any other matter that may come before the Board.
The West Virginia Math 4 Life pledge, Phil Dobbins, and the Advanced Placement Government and Politics Students appeared before the Board. A motion to approve the Proposed Levy Order for the 2019-2020 school year carried. A motion to approve the resignation/retirement of Lisa Arnold as teacher at Clay County High School, effective at the end of the 2018-2019 school year, carried. A motion to approve the employment of Lisa Arnold as substitute teacher for the 2019-2020 school year carried. A motion to approve the employment of Amanda Shelton as substitute teacher, effective immediately, carried. A motion to approve the resignation of Tyler Nichols as substitute custodian, effective immediately, carried.
A motion to approve the Clay County High School Skills USA Students and Chaperones to travel to Fairmont State College for WV Skills USA Contest was passed. A motion to approve the out of state/overnight Gifted trip to Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, PA, on April 5 and 6, 2019, carried. A motion to approve November Hardway as a volunteer Track Coach at Clay County High School for the 2018-2019 school year carried.
The Board of Education met with the Clay County Middle School LSIC, and a recommendation was made to add an additional camera on the side parking lot.
The next Board of Education meeting will be Tuesday, April 16, 2019.
