Daylight Saving Time began again this weekend on March 10, and this is a perfect time to check your smoke alarms and check the alarm’s batteries.
Take the time to see if your smoke alarm works, if the batteries are functioning properly, if the batteries need changed (if you have an older smoke alarm) and to go over your home escape plan.
Newer smoke alarms with ten year batteries do not need to be changed but it is a great time to check if they are functioning properly. Any smoke alarm over ten years old needs to be replaced, so if you are unsure how old your alarm is, simply take it off the ceiling or wall and check the back for its manufacture date. If it is over ten years old, it is time to get a new one.
