On August 27, the Clay Afterschool Program officially began for the 2018-19 school year.
This year offers students support in reading and math, as well as fun games, dance, and arts and crafts. With funds provided by supplemental grants the county received in the spring from the West Virginia Department of Education, a reading and math interventionist were hired for each elementary afterschool program. These teachers will provide small group and one-on-one support for students, helping build their skills, and resources for parents to use at home with their children. The students at Clay Elementary posed with a life-sized gorilla cut-out and a healthy snack—bananas—proudly showing how happy they are to participate in the Clay Afterschool Program.
Funding for this 21st Century Community Learning Center is provided wholly or in part by a grant from the United States Department of Education under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title IV Part B, with grant administration carried out by the West Virginia Department of Education.
