The Mustang track team is back to making waves in the track world as they hit the fields for their first meets of the season. The Mustangs have a lot of new young faces on the team and are building back from last season’s party. Nothing but iron lungs, grit and determination sends this Mustang team to new levels and continues to make peoples’ jaws fall out of place.
There are no chicken legs on the Mustang team and definitely no laziness. They are a team bent on making the Mustang name one to remember.
The Mustangs started their season off with one of the toughest meets in the middle school world, the McKinley Invitational at Laidley Field. This meet brings some of the top schools in the state and is tough competition. They had a tough time scoring points, but Seth Robinson and Brooke Cliver sent waves of pressure to the upper food chain schools.
Seth was 3rd in the 100 meter dash, 3rd in the 400 meter and 5th in the 100 meter hurdles. Brody Scarbro was 6th in the 200 meter run. For the girls, it was Brooke Cliver who place 3rd in the shot put and Jayda Stricker was 10th in the 400 and 8th in the long jump. The boys placed 10th overall and the girls were 12th over all. It was a good first meet and the team will only get better as the season rolls on. They will be at Richwood on Tuesday evening for the Richwood meet; it should be a good one.
Track is up and running for the CCHS team and they have the best running, jumping, and shot putting athletes the school can muster. They travelled to Richwood for the Richwood Invitational last week and did very well.
Overall, the boys placed 3rd in the event with Jacob McCune placing 4th in the 400 meter and Kaden Fitzwater placed 4th in the 1600. Evan Bass put some numbers on the board placing 4th in the 110 hurdles and 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles. The relay teams took 3rd in the 4×200 and 4th in the 4×800. They were first in the shuttle hurdle relay and Ethan Morris was 3rd in the shot put.
The girls placed 4th overall lead by Sarah Ligeralde placing 1st in the shot put and the discus. Xena Legg took 3rd in the shot put while Evie Young took 3rd in the high jump and 4th in the 800. Olivia Witt took 4th in the 1600 meter run and Destiny Mullins took 4th in the 300 meter hurdles.
The Panthers laced up their shoes and hit the track. All of the team did pretty well considering the circumstances. These numbers will no doubt climb up as the season goes on. The Panther Track team is working hard to bring track back on the map in Clay County. They will be back in action on Tuesday evening at Roane County and again on Saturday at Richwood. Come out and support the teams.
