With the topic of drug addiction and getting help, Fairview Baptist Temple would like to let you know they are here for you.
For the past two and a half years, Curt Moore and his wife Kris have been serving the community by providing a listening ear and the steps needed to overcome any addiction.
Every Friday night at 7 p.m. the church opens its doors and hearts to those in need. Mr. Moore says that everyone is going through something, and is addicted to something in one way or another, and assures them that no one is perfect. This program is made to help you be honest with yourself and to help overcome your problems. They use a faith-based program to show you how to use God’s word to get through battles and overcome the chains of addiction. Mr. Moore also has the resources to many detox centers and can usually get individuals in within 24 hours.
One 35-year-old female graduate of Clay County High School, who wishes to remain anonymous, states that she was addicted to opioids for over a decade and had been clean for over two years when she relapsed in June 2018. She says that when she attended RU that she wasn’t judged, looked down upon or criticized for her choices, but instead welcomed with open arms and love. She says God now fills the void that was so long there in her life and she is grateful for this program and the people she has met.
Cheryl Metheny says, “We all struggle and when you walk through that door that you are searching for help and guidance.”
Tammy Brown of Clay says that she isn’t addicted now but has been in the past, and this is a place to go to help others and help yourself stay focused on the future. Kristie English says that God has brought so many people into her life with similar problems and she is thankful for this program. She expresses how nice it is to communicate and help each other through their struggles. Whether it be giving advice or lending an ear, there is someone there that can help. Kristie is happy to say she has been sober for over a year now and excited to see what the future holds for her and her children.
