Despite being one of the smallest schools in the county, H.E. White will have bragging rights for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.
Dr. Michelle Samples presented Principal Jamela Krajeski a “traveling trophy” on June 6, 2018, on behalf of the Clay After School Program (CAP). This trophy will be awarded to the school that has the most 30+ day attendees in the after-school program. That school will win bragging rights and will be able to display the trophy during the upcoming year.
The after-school program is funded through federal grants, and a “regular participant” is a student that attended afterschool for 30 or more days. The more students who attend 30 or more days, the greater commitment it shows on the county’s part to make the most of the grant monies. Research shows that the more consistently students attend a structured afterschool program, the greater improvements they experienced in reading and math. This program is offered in all county schools Monday through Thursday, where they get 30 minutes instructional time in reading, math, homework help, physical education, dance and art.
H.E White had 102 kindergarten through fifth grade students enrolled in the 2017-2018 school year. Out of those 102 students they had 44 regular participants in the after-school program. That is 43% of the student body that attended 30 or more days. This was the most of any school in the county, and especially significant considering the portion of students who attended the program as compared to overall enrollment.
There were two students who received special recognition for their dedication to this program. Ashley and Daniel Roberts both attended the program for 78 out of the 85 days this program was offered. Congratulations H.E. White Pioneers! Best of luck to all county schools in the upcoming school year.
