Clay County Board of Education held one of its bi-monthly meetings on Monday, March 13, at the administrative office.
The agenda was approved to start off the action items on the meeting. Minutes from the previous meeting was approved, as well as payment of current bills. A financial updated was presented by Jennifer Paxton, business manager and treasurer.
A motion to approve the proposed levy order for the 2017-2018 school year was approved. = Tawney Insurance as the agent of record for Clay County Schools for the 2017-2018 school year, was approved. Hiring Joanna James as a parent educator (Parents as Teachers-PAT) Clay and Braxton County -one full-time position grant funding for March 14, 2017 – September 20, 2017, was approved. A motion to approve Jerry Linkinoggor as Clay County Schools, contracted truancy diversion specialist, was approved. This position is a grant position. A motion to approve Beverly Clevenger as driver for bus no. 52, was approved.
A motion to approve the out of county/overnight trip for the Clay High TSA students/chaperones and the Clay Middle TSA students/chaperones to Cedar Lakes Center at Ripley on March 30- April 1 for the TSA State Conference, was approved. A motion to approve Clay County High School to start a fishing team through the Student Angler Foundation, in the association with The Bass Foundation, was approved. Establishing the club is free. Students will pay $25 a year, giving them access to fish all sponsored activities.
A motion to approve the resignation of Delno Coen as activity bus driver, effective February 24, 2017, was approved. A motion to approve the following professional employees for transfer/termination for the 2017-2018 school year was approved:

Transfers and terminations are a precautionary action that assumes the loss of federal funding. As federal funding levels are established for the 2017-18 school year, action will be recommended to rescind transfers/terminations as needed.
A motion to approve the out of county/overnight trip for the Skills USA-Carpentry and Electricity students and chaperones to travel to Fairmont for the state competition, March 31-April 1, was approved. A motion to approve Katelyn Thomas and Bill Varney as volunteer coaches for the 2017 softball season at Clay County High School was approved. A motion to recess until Tuesday, April 18, was approved. This will be a meeting for the proposed levy order motion mentioned above.
