The Clay County Board of Education met on Monday Feb13. After the motion to approve the agenda was made, the board proceeded into executive session.
Upon returning from executive session, a motion to approve minutes from previous meeting was approved. A motion to approve the payment of the current bills was approved. A financial updated was presented by Loretta Gray and Jennifer Paxton, business manager and treasurer.
A motion to approve the Clay County High School HOSA request of $2,199 for the state HOSA competition that is March 10 at Marshall University was approved.
The employment of Leslie Osborne as head softball coach at Clay Middle School, was approved. There was a motion to approve the employment of Bette Ware as assistant softball coach at Clay Middle School, which was approved.
A motion to approve the transfer of Diana Collins from custodian (evening shift) at Clay County High School to custodian (evening shift) at Clay Elementary School was approved. The motion to approve the employment/transfer of Pamela Runion as evening custodian at Clay County High School was approved. The motion to approve the employment of Jonathan “John Boy” Rogers as bus mechanic for Clay County Schools was approved.
The motion was approve to employ the following as substitute bus drivers, pending certification and drug testing (must complete certification and testingwithin 30 days of employment): Sam Belt, Sherman Pritt, Rickey Hannah, William Samuels, Julie Hartline, Tony Taylor, Ronzel Haverty, Joseph Woods and Mike Knopp.
A motion to approve the contract for Joe Paxton as superintendent of ClayCountySchools beginning 2017-2018 school year was approved. In Paxton’s contract, he will make $98,000 for the school year of July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018. His contract is for three years and will increase in the amount of $1,000 per year. During the final year of his contract he will be making $100,000.
The next Board of Education will meet with the H.E. Elementary LSIC at H.E. White Elementary School on Monday, Feb. 27.
