Clay County Board of Education held its regularly scheduled Board Meeting at H.E. White Elementary on Monday, May 21, 2018. The board toured H.E. White Elementary and their green house before the meeting started. The green house is looking wonderful, and all of the crops were growing excellently.
The meeting began with the approval of the agenda. Then, Terri King’s afterschool enrichment dance class performed for the audience. They did a wonderful job and danced to “I Love A Rainy Night” by Eddie Rabbit. The meeting proceeded with the minutes from the previous meeting being approved, as well as approving the preliminary budget for the 2018-2019 school year.
A motion to approve the lease agreement with Appalachia Service Project to use facilities at Clay County Middle School from June 15– July 25, 2018 was approved. A motion to approve Charleston Catholic HOPE 2018 Project to use the facilities at Clay County High School from June 10– June 16, 2018 was approved. A motion to approve Northgate Church 2018 Project to use the facilities at Clay County High School from June 26– June 29, 2018 was approved. A motion to approve the transfer of Brian Collins from teacher at Clay County High School to health/physical education teacher at Clay County Middle School, effective for the 2018-2019 school year was approved. A motion the approve the employment of Erica Smith as 4th grade teacher at Clay Elementary School, effective for the 2018-2019 school year was approved. A motion to approve the transfer of Vicky Perdue from Pre-K aide to Autism Mentor Pre-k aide at Clay Elementary School, effective for the 2018-2019 school year was approved.
A motion to approve the employment of the following as summer custodians was approved, Sammy Reed, Debbie Gould, Jesse Runion, Alice Rowe, Wendy Jarrett, Rachel Thorne, Kenny Smith, Kay Miller and Joan Nichols. A motion for the employment of Clara Deyton as summer school 2018 custodian at Clay Elementary was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Goldie Woods, Pat Legg and Brenda Griffin as activity bus drivers for Summer 2018 – extracurricular was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Charlotte Fitzwater and Dorothy Childers as summer school 2018 cooks at Clay Elementary was approved. A motion to approve Jennifer Nutter and Melea Holcomb as cooks for Appalachia Service Project from June 15– July 25, 2018 at Clay County Middle School was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Dorothy Childers and Charlotte Fitzwater as cooks for the Fall Sports Camp from July 30– August 14, 2018 at Clay County High School was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Dorothy Childers and Kathy Legg as cooks for Charleston Catholic from June 10– June 17, 2018 at Clay County High School was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Tina Hall (four days per week) as summer school reading specialist/ interventionist was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Megan Sears as afterschool teacher for developing reading at Big Otter Elementary School was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Kathi Linkinoggor as reading interventionist, Alice Nottingham as Math interventionist at Clay Elementary and Amy Nichols as reading interventionist at Lizemore Elementary (two nights per week) was approved.
A motion to approve the employment of Taylor Connard as Afterschool substitute at Clay High School was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Britini Ramsey as afterschool site coordinator at Lizemore Elementary (two nights per week) was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Julie Ann Grose and Michael Kiser as substitute teachers, pending certification was approved. A motion to approve the employment of Haley Greathouse as substitute teacher, pending certification was approved. a motion to approve the resignation of Audra Thomas as music teacher at Clay County High School, effective June 14, 2018 was approved. A motion to approve the resignation of Crystal Hamrick as English Teacher at Clay Middle School, effective June 14, 2018 was approved. A motion to approve the resignation of Rick McLaughlin as Mechanic for Clay County Schools, effective immediately, was approved. A motion to approve the resignation of George Workman as handyman for Clay County Schools, effective May 17, 2018 was approved. A motion to approve the out of county/overnight trip for Clay County High School FFA students and chaperones to travel to Morgantown, WV May 31, 2018 to June 1, 2018 was approved. A motion to approve the instate/overnight trip for H.E. White Elementary Students and Chaperones to travel to Organ Caves (Ronceverte, WV) June 2 – June 3, 2018 was approved. A motion to approve the reclassification of Jonathan Rogers from Mechanic to Mechanic/bus operator, effective immediately was approved.
