By Allen Hamrick
The second annual Robert Arnold Tanner Scholarship day was held at the Unity Gospel Tabernacle, a church just across the border in Calhoun County. The scholarship was initiated several years ago to help the youth of the church get books and other items that plague young college students today. Arnold Tanner was a man who cared a great deal for youth and was always there in support, whether they were from Clay County or a different county, and was completely unselfish with his help.
The youth who receive this scholarship have a few guide lines they must follow throughout the year in the church or contribute in some way to the betterment of the community as well being a light to those who walk in troubled times. It was Arnold’s hope that all youth have an opportunity to succeed and to obtain their dreams.
Receiving the award this year was Grayson Hamrick, Lucas Hamrick, Katie Stover, and Kelsey Stover Blankenhorn. Congratulations to those students. Thanks to the Arnold Tanner family for their generosity and to the church members who help raise money for the program
