The Panther wrestling team traveled to Herbert Hoover High School on Saturday to compete in the Region III championship. Here is where it would be determined who would move on to compete for a state title in Huntington – the top four in each weight class will move on. This was yet another year that the CCHS team would make their mark on the mats. Four Panther wrestlers grappled their way to the state tournament. Blake Coleman was Region III Champion, Caiden Bryant placed 2nd, Owen McGlothin placed 4th and Eddie Metheney placed 4th. Each one of these wrestlers will represent as CCHS Panthers on the mats at the state tournament. Overall, the team placed 4th out of 14 teams represented making it a good tournament for the wrestling team.
The inaugural CCHS Lady Panther wrestling team, consisting of Jayda Stricker and Zaiah Minger, also wrestled their first ever Regional tournament. CCHS will send Zaiah Minger to the all-girls state tournament. She placed 5th in the regional competition.
The West Virginia State Wrestling Tournament will be held at the Big Sandy Arena on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 5 through March 7. The Lady Panther wrestlers will compete on March 7th. If you get the opportunity, come out and support these Panthers and Lady Panther. They work hard to be the best in their class, and the state tournament may just prove that they are. Congratulations to the wrestlers who made it to the state competition. Bring home the gold!
