On Sunday October 15, at 3 p.m., the Vintage Theatre Company will present King Lear at the Landmark Studio for the Arts on Main Street, Sutton. Tickets will be available at the door for $10.

The Vintage Theatre was founded by Jason Young in Clarksburg WV. Young will be directing King Lear and touring it in several locations The Rusted Mechanicals is Vintage Theatre’s Shakespeare troupe. Their focus is on making Shakespeare plays accessible to modern audiences by utilizing interesting production concepts, dynamic staging and extreme casting.

The Vintage Theatre regularly tours shows and hosts the yearly WV Comedy Festival and the WV Playwrights Festival.  They present operatic performances and workshops for schools and the general public. The Landmark Studio is pleased to be hosting the Vintage Theatre Company’s King Lear.

King Lear is the tragic tale of an aging King who is ready to leave his throne and divide it between his three daughters. The daughter who loves him most will receive the largest share, however as the plot unfolds, so does the treachery. Corruption, deceit and greed follow.  The original version of King Lear has been regarded as one of William Shakespeare’s supreme achievements, as it observes the nature of human suffering and kinship.

The Landmark Studio is a not for profit community arts and theater organization. The Landmark is supported by its fans and volunteers, as well as community businesses and grants. More information about the Board of Directors, becoming a volunteer or our schedule can be found on the web at landmarkstudioforthearts.org or on Facebook or by calling us at 304-644-3166.  In addition to King Lear, our schedule this fall includes the WV Filmmakers Festival on October 6-8, Puddin and the Grumble on November 10-11, and the Best Christmas Pageant Ever on December 7, 8, 9, 14,and 16.
