The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Section will sponsor a hunter education course. The course will be held at H.E. White Elementary School on Sept. 24, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sept. 25 from 1-7 p.m.
This is a mandatory training for anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1975 prior to purchasing a base hunting license for West Virginia. Students must bring the last four digits of their social security number.
The hunter education course is a minimum of 10 hours of instruction with hands-on gun exercises with inoperable firearms and dummy ammo, followed by a final written exam.
Those successfully completing the course will be issued a Certificate of Completion cared which will be proof of completing the course and will be shown when purchasing a license.
Students must have reached their 10th birthday by final exam day to be eligible for a permanent card. This course is recognized in all states and Canadian provinces as well as Mexico.
