Congratulations to H.E. White Community School for winning the West Virginia Department of Education’s (WVDE) Summer Learning Challenge.
The West Virginia WVDE encouraged schools to participate in the Summer Reading Contest to win a free site license to a reading improvement program. The pledge to read began on May 1and ended on August 31. The schools with the highest percentage rate would be recipients of the awards.
H.E. White Principal April Kearns was notified by Charlotte Webb, WVDE coordinator of elementary education, that her school had won the challenge.
“I was excited for my students to take the Summer Reading Challenge, as we have been focusing diligently on increasing our students’ literacy skills,” said Kearns. “We were thrilled to learn we had the highest number of pledges in the state. I know it will continue fostering the love of reading and help our students increase their proficiency.”
H.E. White won second place in the challenge last year.
