The Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery (DCKMSVC) hosted a “Spirit of 45” ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II on Sunday, August 16.
Spirit of 45 is a national campaign that encourages communities throughout the country to honor our “greatest generation’s greatest day” through various celebrations and tributes. The ceremony included the reading of a proclamation, a wreath laying, guest speakers and appropriate musical selections. Special guest Eric Wood, a Gold Star Son whose father was killed in action in WWII, also delivered remarks.
The ceremony began at 12:15 p.m. at the Cemetery’s Committal Shelter located behind the West Virginia State Police Academy at 130 Academy Drive, Dunbar, WV 25064.
