The regularly scheduled Clay County Commission meeting was held on Wednesday, October 12,. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved, as well as the bills and purchase orders as presented, the erroneous assessments, refunds of erroneous assessments, and real estate divisions as presented by the assessor.
The appointment of Ashley Jean Harmon, administratrix of the estate of Betty Hean Harmon, deceased, was approved. The appointment of Larry R. Holcomb, administrator of the estate of Arthur Dean Holcomb, deceased, was approved. The appointment of Helen King, administratrix of the estate of Glen Dale King, deceased, was approved. Probating the last will and testament of Clarence Eugene Runion and the appointment of Dorma Davis, executrix, was approved. The request of waiver of final settlement for the estates of Jerry C. Fields, Johnny Dale Drake and Carolyn Faye Williams, deceased, was approved.
An equipment service contract for a copy machine located in the assessor’s office, at the rate of $367 for a period beginning September 30, 2016 through September 29, 2017, was approved.
A request by Sheriff Samples to hire Ryan Thomas as a deputy sheriff effective October 16, 2016, was approved. His salary is to be $1,875 per month and paid from the sheriff’s Law Enforcement budget.
A request by the Clay County Business Development Authority to accept Brandon Keiper’s verbal resignation, effective September 12, 2016, was approved.
Trick or Treat for Clay County has been set to coincide with the Town of Clay Trick or Treat as October 31 from 6-8 p.m. Town of Clay trick or treat is from 6-7 p.m. that night.
Lastly, the commission approved the motion to hire Prentice Mitigation and General Contracting from Winfield, WV, in the amount of $2,675.19, to remove four feet of drywall and insulation, clean, treat and dry, and remove and dispose of tile in the former CAEZ building and direct the county clerk to pay the contractor once the job is completed and inspected.
