
Clay County’s cross country teams turned in a strong performance at the Lincoln County Invitational this past Wednesday, bringing home medals, a team victory, and plenty of momentum heading into their next meet.
In the middle school girls’ race, Marissa Atha led the charge for CCMS, capturing first place with a commanding run. Danae Stricker followed close behind in second place, and Lillian Goebel added to the team’s effort with a strong seventh-place finish. Their efforts led the girls’ team to a very successful day.
The middle school boys continued their impressive season by securing their second team victory of the year. All six of Clay County’s runners earned individual medals in a dominant team effort. Gunner Dobbins finished second overall, with Sam Hubbard just behind in third. Holden Reed crossed the line in sixth, followed by Mason James in seventh and Scott Butler in ninth. James Mullens rounded out the team with a tenth-place finish, giving Clay County a powerful showing from top to bottom.
McKinley Mahan earned a medal for the CCHS girls’ team by finishing twelfth overall. Ashley Roberts also ran a solid race.On the boys’ side, Isaiah Woods, Evan Bass, and Andrew Tanner each earned medals placing inside the top twenty, helping to establish a competitive team presence. Toby Yeager and Bret Smith rounded out the team’s lineup, bringing energy and consistency to the course.
The next race on the calendar is a home meet, the Buffalo Creek Invitational, which will be held at Dundon Field on Monday, September 30. The middle school girls will race at 4:00 p.m., followed by the middle school boys at 4:40 p.m. High school girls will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the high school boys’ race set to start at 6:20 p.m.Clay County’s athletes continue to make their community proud with hard work, dedication, and outstanding sportsmanship. Fans are encouraged to come out to Dundon Field and cheer them on as they compete on their home course.
