Camp Catch Your Breath has opportunities for you to sponsor a child or children to attend the week-long asthma camp.
The cost to send a child to camp is $70. Typically about 75 percent of the camp’s applicants express a need and the child is able to attend camp free of charge.
Sonny Hoskinson, camp director and UHC pharmacist, said that the actual cost per child at camp is about $600 on average when calculating a week’s lodging, meals, activities and entertainment. “Thanks to community and corporate support we have been able to keep the registration fee incredibly low,” Hoskinson said.
“We never want finances to keep a child from coming to camp. It’s important for them to be here (at camp) and we have never had to turn a child away due to the inability to pay. “
We are delighted to welcome The Health Plan’s partnership in helping to make others realize the impact that CCYB has on our youth, struggling with asthma. Patti
Fast, The Health Plan V.P. of Government Programs and Operations, says, “The Health
Plan sees the beneficial evidence that CCYB provides to children in their week-long camp experience. As an established community health organization, we focus on improving the health and well-being of our members and the community. We are committed to supporting CCYB and helping to make it available for the youth of West Virginia and beyond.”
This summer’s camp, July 19-24, marks the 25th year Camp Catch Your Breath has held its week-long camp at Jackson’s Mill, Weston. Children ages 8-13 from all over West
Virginia and some surrounding states attend the camp to learn about their disease, the most common chronic childhood disorder. Asthma currently affects an estimated 7.1 million children under 18 years of age and can be life threatening if not properly managed.
