The WV Natural Resources Police will hold a Boater’s Education Course at the Big Otter Volunteer Fire Department in Ivydale, WV. The class will be held on May 20 from 1 to 8 p.m. This is a 7-hour course and students must take and pass the written exam at the end of the course to receive their permanent certification.
In 1998, West Virginia passed legislation that requires any person born after December 31, 1986 to successfully complete an approved Boater’s Education Course before operating a motorboat or PWC in the State of West Virginia. This course is open to the public and is free of charge. Any age individual may attend, however only students at least 11 years of age that have passed the test will receive a certificate of completion. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
