Damon Grose, long time resident of Clay County and long time coach and supporter of Clay County football, has been named to the coaching staff of the Canton U.S. National Football team developmental games. Grose will coach the linebackers and will be joined by some of the best coaches in the game of football. The head coach will be Logan Williams, defensive line coach at WVU. Along with Grose, the defensive staff will include Anthony Leonard, former WVU player and coach who is now coaching at IUP. Coaching the defensive backs will be Jeff Franklin from Walsh College and Logan Plumley from Miami of Ohio. Damon Grose was selected because of his passion and commitment to the game of football and will no doubt positively influence the youth who participate in the developmental games. He was also selected because of his tenacity on the football field that has played a big part in the success of CCHS football. Coach Grose played a big part in the lives of CCHS football players and proved to them that going beyond what they’re capable of each and every play not only helps win a game but to win in life as well. The developmental games are a product of the USA Football League and are a precursor for exceptional high school athletes across the nation to come and learn from the best coaches and receive cutting edge tips on their respective positions. Players are given an opportunity for college recruiters to get a look at the next best athletes. It is also the time where the USA football league picks their team that will represent the United States in the international games in Dallas, Texas against teams from Canada, Japan, Mexico, and Australia with the possibility of more teams to enter. The games are supported by the NCAA, NFL and the US Olympic Committee, and it will also be on the ballot to become an Olympic sport by 2020. Coach Grose has been invited to be a part of that as well. It is a great opportunity for Coach Grose, and since being turned down for the head coach position at CCHS, this allows him to still be a part of the game he loves the most – football. There is no doubt that he will represent not only Clay County but West Virginia very well. Good luck Coach Grose!
