TroopersBy Amber Bass
Nine days. From August 28th until September 5th, Clay stood somber. In memory, the Workman & Bailey families, lit candles on the one year anniversary of that fatal night that shook a state to its core and devastated a county. The Wallback Park and Ride has been illuminated with love, memories and reverence for nine nights. Connie and George Workman along with other Workman family members kept the vigil burning bright nightly, until Eric was brought home.
Visitors from all over the state have revisited the site to pay homage to the fallen heroes. Several member from the 61st cadet class, Trooper Workman’s graduating class, gathered in solace and reflection throughout the extended week. Whether, in groups or alone; friends, family, co-workers, acquaintances, or strangers touched by the devastation, Wallback’s hallowed ground has become a place of pilgrimage. Though the candles will be will no longer glow, the memory forever burns bright. September 12th, 2013 at 2:00pm will be the bridge dedication ceremony for Corporal Marshall Bailey and Trooper Eric Workman at the park and ride.
