Trevor, who was ranked number one in the state in the 400 meter dash, had a target on his back coming into the competition. This was coupled with the fact that a stomach virus hit him that morning and breathing was difficult to say the least right up to the time of the race. It was painfully obvious to observers and fans in the stands that he would have to overcome in an epic fashion. With nerves stretched to the limit, Trevor was off to the races in extraordinary style pushing himself to the edge. Trevor Armes crossed the finish line just hundredths of a second in front of second place. It was an amazing accomplishment of ability and pure heart. His time was 50.67 seconds, and second place came close behind at 50.81 seconds. Trevor, who doesn’t consider himself a sprinter, proves otherwise on the track. He awaits his opportunity, and on the last 100 meters, he turns on the afterburners and smokes the field much to the frustration of the other runners. Track never gets the recognition that it deserves, but Trevor has put track back on the map at CCHS. All season long Trevor has proven himself over and over, and it is only fitting that he is awarded the best of the best – State Champion. Congratulations to Trevor Armes for gutting out the season and becoming the best. Congratulations also to David Tanner who competed in the 1600 meter race and was 15th with a time of 5:13.88. That’s pretty good considering that out of hundreds of runners in the state he is 15th overall. The 4×440 team consisting of Trevor Armes, David Tanner, Luke Young and Robert Daniels who qualified for the state competition with a time of 3:42.16 bested that time by running a 3:40.29. They placed 8th overall at the meet. This weekend would also be the last time Robert Daniels will compete as a CCHS runner. He will graduate this Saturday and move onto great things I am sure. The CCHS track team gets better each year, and this year’s state competition is solid proof of that.
