With the contamination scare in the air on Thursday, Clay had its own water problems. The town water plant was suffering low water levels as a result of freezing temperatures Monday night and Tuesday. Water meters burst and water lines froze which in turn drained the tanks. County schools were canceled Friday in an effort to save on water. Most of Clay residents were fortunate to either have well water or local water. On the other end of the county in Bomont, they were less fortunate enduring contaminated water from the WV American Water scare. The Public Service District advises, with exception of the Bomont area, that water in Clay County is safe for use and consumption.
