The CCHS Panther wrestling team participated in the Pat Vance Invitational held at the Nitro High School this past Friday and Saturday. Some of the toughest wrestlers from all over the state came to compete in the event. The Panthers have some of those wrestlers that are hard to beat, and if an opponent was lucky enough to beat one of them, they were in a war. The boys went to work on Friday evening proving once again that Clay wrestlers are the ones to beat. When all the rounds were completed, the Panthers sent three wrestlers into the championship round. First up was Robert Pritt at 132 pounds. This wrestler was 20 -0 for the year so far heading into the match, and he would add one more to his record. Pritt dominated the match with some serious skills. When the smoke cleared, Robert Pritt took his first individual championship of the season and raised his record to 21-0. Next up was Austin Dobbins who, at 170 pounds, is one of the toughest at that weight bracket. He was matched up with a wrestler from Morgantown that was equally as tough. It was a tough match, and in the end Dobbins was a little short in points and wound up second. Obviously, it was a good match up. Brandon White at 195 pounds is 195 pounds of nothing but mean. His match went the full six minutes, and at the end, Brandon also razed his opponent to the ground to become champion. White is also undefeated for the year. Also, Andrew Flemming took third in this tournament. Panther wrestling will take to the mats at the National Guard Duals in Summersville this coming weekend. Congratulations to Brandon and Robert for bringing home the gold and to the rest of the team for a great tournament.
