Tucked away along the Elk River in Duck sits a little country store known as Nottingham’s. For nearly a hundred years, people in the tips of Clay and Braxton counties have traveled to this little depot to purchase everything a family could need – groceries, fuel, feed and now even the Clay County Free Press! The Nottingham family has run the operation since 1927, with James at the helm since September of 1961. Dedicated to serving the people in their small community, the Nottingham’s open the store every day but Sunday from 7:30 am until 6:00 pm. This store is the hub of the community and a gathering place for many. You can hear stories galore and there’s always a friendly face to greet you when you walk in the door. It’s nice to see that good ol’ fashioned service is still thriving in our area.
