Nearly 445 new and transfer students are set to arrive on West Virginia Wesleyan College’s campus on Saturday, August 20 for orientation activities.
Students will arrive on campus August 20 for check-in beginning at 8 a.m. for Orientation. The College will also be hosting its BOOT Camp (Bobcat Outdoor Orientation Trip) activities at Seneca Rocks.  This is the fifth year for the Bobcat Orientation Outdoor Trip.  Twenty-four students will be attending the trip, which runs from August 17 to August 19, that includes opportunities for them to participate in rock climbing, canoeing, hiking, and team building exercises.
“Although the name may sound intimidating, this experience help create lifelong friends for those that attend,” stated BOOT Camp coordinator and admissions counselor Josh Lopitz ’16.  “I attended the event when I was a student, and I still keep in touch with the friends I made back in 2012.  This is a perfect opportunity for new students to rewrite their stories by stepping out of their comfort zones and discovering who they really are.”
The incoming class boasts a GPA of 3.53, with almost one quarter of the class graduating from high school with a perfect 4.0.  Additionally, another 35% of this group finished with a GPA between 3.5-3.99.  The top ten majors of this class are art, athletic training, biochemistry, biology, business, education, exercise science, nursing, physics/engineering, and psychology.  The College will welcome 32 new international students who represent 18 countries, and the five most represented states are West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Ohio.
“We are proud to continue to buck many national trends for small private colleges and universities in bringing in another strong class with tremendous academic accomplishments across a wide array of majors,” stated John Waltz ’01, vice president for enrollment management.
“In this class, we welcome record numbers of creative and performing artists and Wesleyan Service Scholars along with another impressive cohort of NCAA Division II student-athletes.   I am so thankful for such a hardworking and diligent enrollment team along with coaches, staff, faculty, student ambassadors, and administrators who make enrollment a campus-wide responsibility.”
