Finally, a desperately needed business has opened in Clay County. Entrepreneur Rocky Boggs opened a new laundromat in Clay County at Two Run on Route 16 just beyond Clay Lumber. Ever since Alan Ramsey died and the laundromat at Bickmore was closed, there have been no laundromats in Clay. Those who don’t own a washer or dryer, or couldn’t impose upon family or friends for the use of one, had to make trips to Clendenin or to Summersville to get clothes washed. Even the laundromat in Newton, which would have been closer, closed some time ago.
Rocky opened the laundromat Saturday, October 4. And while there are no hours yet listed on the door, the business is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Rocky locks and unlocks the building at those times.
The laundromat boasts six regular washers, four oversize front-loading washers, and ten dryers. There is also a soap dispenser and a change making machine, as well as a deep sink for hand washing. If the equipment looks familiar, it is because Rocky bought this laundry equipment from the estate of Alan Ramsey.
“I bought it from his kids,” Rocky says.
The prices have been adjusted slightly. $3 for a regular washer, $5.75 for the big washers, and the dryers remain the same at a quarter for five minutes. “I compared prices,” Rocky said, “I looked at prices at both Clendenin and Summersville. I kept my prices under theirs. The large washers at Clendenin are $7 per load.”
The place is cleaned daily and is a much needed service again for all of Clay County.
