It was the final hoorah for the Mustang wrestling program this season as they participated in the Mona Lisa of wrestling tournaments, the CWVAC Championship. The Mustangs have been in the hunt all season at tournaments held throughout the area and have only gotten better and better. This tournament would pit all the finest middle school programs in the region and all those at the top of the food chain. The Mustangs were not going to be pushovers and proceeded to wipe the mat with the competition. It was a dramatic finish to say the least; the Mustangs put six wrestlers in the finals. It was to be a race at the end for the team championship between the CCMS Mustangs, Braxton Middle and Spencer Middle. It was up to the championship round where it would all be settled. This is where the matches would become critical mass and determine the final team score. In the end, the Mustangs placed third, just one point out of second and seven points out of first place behind Braxton Middle who placed first and Spencer who placed second. It has been a great season for the Mustangs this year. They have become a powerhouse once again and the ones to beat at wrestling meets. Team scores were Braxton 145 points, Spencer 139 points and Mustangs 138 points. Placing 1st in the tournament were Riley Perkins at 123lbs, Colton Casto at 171lbs, Trey Sams at 190 lbs., and Joe Sears at 285 lbs. Placing second were Austin Davies at 78lbs and Blake Sontos at 90 lbs. Third place finishers were Richard Triplett at 135 lbs., Jacob Glenn at 155lbs and Chris Mollohan at 145lbs. Fourth was Hunter Phillips at 116 lbs. and Fifth was Bo Roat at 102 lbs. Congratulations to the coaches and the wrestlers for a great season.
