We are encouraging scout groups, veterans and active duty soldiers, seniors, children and families to take part in our summer volunteer kick-off. Volunteer activities will begin at 1 PM at approximately 3:30 PM Boy Scout Troop #79 will perform flag raising.
“In these tough economic times, we need volunteers more than ever,” says Executive Director Chad Morrison. “Mountaineer Food Bank is facing increasing demands for services, and volunteers can help us fill this growing need. We are pleased to extend an invitation to past, current and new community supporters in efforts to feed hungry West Virginians.”
A variety of volunteer activities will be available from packing food boxes in our warehouse to assisting with our donation mailer. Volunteers must wear closed toed shoes. June Volunteer Day kicks off at 1 in the afternoon on June 7 and ends at 4 with a flag raising by local Boy Scout Troop #79.
“This summer, we hope that community members and organizations from each of the 48 counties in our service area visit the food bank and engage in the fight against hunger. Although our warehouse is located in Braxton County our service area spans all across the state” explains Morrison. If traveling to our warehouse is not feasible we encourage you to visit a local pantry and assist locally. Morrison challenges everyone to participate in the fight against hunger, “Solving hunger is as much about what you’re doing in your communities as what we’re doing in around our state– and it’s going to take all of us, working together.”

“Everyone has something to give, and summer is a great time to get involved,” reminds Executive Director Chad Morrison. By serving this summer, we hope more West Virginians will make an ongoing commitment to volunteering throughout the year.
