The Lady Panthers are setting fire to the diamond going 2 and 1 this week. The Ladies were on a three game home stretch matching bats and gloves with Valley Fayette and Braxton County. First up was a double header against a tough Valley Fayette team. Game one found the girls in a pickle early; slow bats and a couple of mistakes got them in catch up mode, but yet they trailed 2-5 after 2 innings. However, not to be out done the Lady Panther bats heated up. Destiny Williams, Alisha Angel and Graci Mitchell brought out the big girl bats and started notching runs on the board. Williams went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s, Mitchell also went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s, and Alisha Angel went 2-4 with a triple. When the dust cleared, the Lady Panthers held off Valley Fayette and took the first game 9-7. Game two was a different story. The Lady Panthers got down to business and took the game to the house beating them 14-4. In this game Kyla Smith jacked a home run scoring two of the 14 runs. Kelsie Cottrell smacked a double and also scored two runs on that hit. Graci Mitchell kept her bat hot as she went 3-3 in the game; she had two games, six at bats and five hits. Sarah Boggs went 2-2 in the game and had a double and 2 RBI’s. Braxton blew into the home field with a 16-3 record hoping to repeat the last game they had against the Lady Panthers when they short gamed them.
The Lady Eagles found this game a little tougher than the last meeting of these two clubs. This game would go all the way – after 6 innings the Lady Panthers only trailed them by one run. When it was all said and done, the game went the distance and the Lady Eagles were on top by the score of 4-7. Kelsie Cottrell went 1-3 sending one over the fence for a 3 run home run. Mackenzie Burford went 2-3 with a triple. The Lady Panthers seem to get better and better as the season goes on. The girls are fielding better and definitely hitting the ball better. The season will not last too much longer; the Lady Panthers are 12-11 on the season and doing really well. They will have another full week of play this week: Monday at Nicholas, Tuesday at home against Gilmer, and Wednesday at Capitol High School. They will play the LKC placement game either Friday or Saturday and who they play is yet to be determined. Get out and catch a game.
