Layla Stewart drives in for two points.

By Allen Hamrick

To catch up on the Lady Mustangs’ season – they met their archrivals this past week, the Lady Knights of Braxton County. When these two teams met earlier in the season, the Lady Knights caused the Lady Mustangs to have a Waterloo experience. This time, however, the Lady Mustangs were a juggernaut the Lady Knights couldn’t handle.

It was game on for the Lady Mustangs.

Every time these two teams meet, it promises to be a barn burner, and this game didn’t disappoint. The Lady Mustangs turned on the defense, and the Lady Knights lost hope on a runaway game quickly. The Lady Mustangs out stole, dribbled, shot, and rebounded the Lady Knights. With defense, you can expect a low scoring and tight game. At the end of the first period of play, the Lady Mustangs were up on the Lady Knights 11-9. Neither team could find the hoop much in the second period, and the score stood at 14-11 with the Lady Mustangs in the lead at the half.

For the rest of the game, both defenses pounded the courts allowing just a baseball score of points. When the smoke cleared on this nail biter, the Lady Mustangs got the win by the score of 20-18. The Lady Mustangs are on a three-game winning streak going into this week where they will face Summersville on Tuesday night. You will not want to miss this one. In the game it was Marissa Atha as top shot with seven points.
