Homeowners who are rebuilding after the June 22-29 severe storms, flooding, mudslides and landslides have the opportunity to meet with State and FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) advisers at the public meetings listed below to discuss mitigation opportunities. The information will focus on the HMGP process and rebuilding efforts for the affected homeowners. Particular attention will be given to Elevation and Mitigation Reconstruction. Every year, flooding causes
more than 90 percent of the disaster-related property damage in the United States and accounts for more than 75 percent of all presidential disaster declarations. Homeowners building in a floodplain are encouraged to elevate or reinforce their homes to make them less susceptible to flood damage.
