Four Glenville State College Cadets Receive Army Commissions

On Friday May 9th, 2014 in downtown Charleston, WV, within the rotunda of the Capitol building, seven United States Army Second Lieutenants from the West Virginia State University’s U.S. Army ROTC ‘Yellow Jacket Battalion’ were commissioned.  Four of the seven new Lieutenants hail from Glenville State College.  Autumn Bloom, Marc Jones, Catherine Nottingham, and Eric Plummer all donned the bars of Second Lieutenant and entered the Army in service to our nation.

“My peers and I are grateful for everything the Yellow Jacket Battalion Cadre and GSC did to help us become officers.  I know we are all excited by our assignments and the opportunities afforded us to serve our nation,” said 2LT Marc Jones.

“We are so proud of these four new officers. Not only are they great representatives of Glenville State College, they also demonstrate the willingness of West Virginians to become proud members of our armed services,” said GSC Senior Vice President, External Affairs, James Spears.

SFC Daniel Webb, U.S. Army ROTC Senior Instructor at GSC, added, “It’s certainly been a gratifying experience for me to help with the development of these four new officers.”

2LT Bloom‘s rank was pinned on by her mother, April Marks; she commissioned into the West Virginia National Guard as an Engineer officer and will attend the Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  2LT Jones’ rank was pinned on by his father and mother, Larry and Melissa Jones.  He was commissioned into the West Virginia National Guard as an Armor officer and will attend the Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Benning, Georgia with follow on duty in A Troop 1/150th Armored Reconnaissance Squadron in West Virginia.

2LT’s Nottingham and Plummer were selected for full-time active duty as Engineer and Ordinance officers respectively.  2LT Plummer will depart in June to serve as a member of the cadre at the Leadership Development Assessment Course at Fort Knox.  Following this tour of duty he will attend the Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Lee, Virginia with follow on duty to attend Explosive Ordinance Disposal training at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

“We are so impressed with these new officers who I know will do our country, and Glenville State College, proud,” said GSC President and Vietnam era veteran Dr. Peter Barr.
