The financial burden of the Clay County Board of Education recently forced the county’s only fitness center to close its doors. Justin and Rene Holcomb have taken on the task of reopening the center as a for profit organization in order to provide the county with a place to exercise. The Grand Opening for the Clay County Fitness Center will be Tuesday, September 3 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Following that, the center will be open from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm daily for members to utilize.
However, with new management comes new policy. The membership fee will be $30 per month per person or $12 per week for those looking for a short term membership. If you want to check out the facilities before you commit, you can accompany a current member with a one day pass for free. Children under sixteen will not be permitted to use the equipment and children ages 16-18 will only be granted access with parent’s permission.
Upgrades for the building are planned and the implementation of a key swipe and security cameras will eventually make the location a 24 hour fitness center. Starting September 10, the upstairs of the building will be hosting karate classes weekly on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm. Zumba classes are in the works too. The upstairs is available for rent Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings.
Plan on stopping by the Grand Opening of the Clay County Fitness Center this Tuesday between 4:00 and 6:00 to sign up for your membership, enjoy some homemade healthy snacks and to visit with the new management and fellow fitness enthusiasts!
