An early morning wreck Friday morning shut down both lanes of Interstate 79 after emergency personnel discovered possible explosive devices in the wreckage. Roane County 911 dispatched firemen to the single vehicle accident around 3:30 am between the Amma and Wallback exits. The vehicle had rolled into the median and the driver had suffered head injuries that required transportation to the hospital.
The vehicle’s cargo, around thirty five chickens, were strewn about the roadway and running wild around the scene. Further investigation of the wreckage found a substantial amount of marijuana, firearms and improvised explosive devices in the vehicle. Bomb technicians were called to the scene to investigate and the interstate was shut down as a safety precaution. West Virginia State Police say the IEDs were altered fireworks and once removed from the scene they were defused. Seth Grim, 20 years old of Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with felony charges of possession with intent to deliver and possessing destructive devices. Grim remains in Central Regional Jail on $25,000 bond.
