The snowy weather brought out only a few citizens for Wednesday’s County Commission meeting. The agenda began with the normal approval of minutes, purchase orders and bills. Several last wills and testaments were voted upon as well as the settling of estates. Suzanne Legg’s resignation from the Clay County Library Board was accepted with no replacement named to the vacancy.
Connie Lepardus, Executive Director of the Central Appalachia Empowerment Zone, appeared before the Commission to announce the possibility of a new job position coming to the Clay area. Through a partnership with the West Virginia Development Office, the new person would service small businesses in the counties of Clay, Nicholas, Webster, Summers, Fayette and Greenbrier. Small business retention as well as new business growth in the county would be the main focus. Assistance with taxes, budgeting and available business incentives would be beneficial to small businesses within the county. Paid through state funding, Clay could benefit tremendously. Watch for details about the employment opportunity in the near future.
The next scheduled Clay County Commission meeting is December 11 at 10:00 am.
