The Clay County Board of Education met at the administrative office on Monday, June 16, 2014. Items of discussion included RESA, the 2014-2015 board of education meetings, and service employee applications. Employee resignations, transfers and hiring dominated the actions items of the agenda. Three resignations were accepted by the board including Beth Butler from Title I teacher at Clay Middle, Barry Payton from girls’ basketball coach at CCHS and Shawn Krajeski from assistant boys’ basketball coach at CCHS. Jok Schoonover and Beth Butler were both hired as substitute teachers for the 2014-2015 school year. Stephen Butler transferred from Bus 54 to Bus 67 for the upcoming school year and Mitch DeBoard transferred from Bus 47 to Bus 75 as well. Elizabeth Taylor was hired for the open Title I Teacher position at Clay Middle School for the 2014-2015 school year. Norman Ramsey was also approved to paint school buses as well as install radios and cameras in the units during the summer.
There are several upcoming changes in Clay athletics coaches staff. Approved bids included Stacy Deyton as CCHS assistant cheerleading coach, Doug Thomas as CCHS assistant baseball coach, Larry Ramsey as CCHS assistant basketball coach, Joe Dawson as 9th grade basketball coach, Aaron Williams as athletic trainer at CCHS, Rick Willis as head golf coach, and Sonya Williams as assistant girl’s basketball coach at Clay Middle.
After a close to a decade as a member of the Clay County Board of Education, Monday’s meeting was the last for Beth Cercone. The addition of Beth’s resignation left three open spots on the May ballots. Two members were re-elected as well as one new face. Newcomer Cheryl White will begin her tenure as a board member in July and has vowed to work hard for the parents, students and teachers of Clay County. The next meeting, with the new board in place, is scheduled for Monday July 7 at 6:00 pm. Plan to attend.
