Deputy Josh Fields

Last week, Deputy Josh Fields of the Roane County Police Department decided to have a leisurely day of fishing, but ultimately, the day ended up being anything but normal. Fields was driving on Ripley Road when he noticed a home on fire.  “I noticed cars in the driveway but no one outside,” he said. He knew this meant it was more than likely that there were people inside.

Fields, along with Eric Smith, Daniel Mace, and Ted Hapney, decided to go into the burning house together and ended up pulling a man and woman from the fire.  The woman was given CPR by Fields and survived, but sadly, the man did not survive. Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after and discovered a third person was inside while fighting the fire, who unfortunately also did not survive the incident.

Officer Fields and the three others were recognized at the Roane County courthouse for their bravery.
