It’s time once again for the Clay County Schools Hall of Fame organization to hold their annual golf tournament, and follow that up with the Hall of Fame ceremony. This year’s tournament will be held at the Big Bend Country Club on Friday, Sept. 19, and the Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held the following day, Saturday, Sept. 20, during the Golden Delicious Apple Festival at the CCHS auditorium. The ceremony starts at 4 p.m.
Registration for the golf tournament will be at 8 a.m. on Sept. 19, and play begins at 9 a.m. sharp. The tournament will be a two-man scramble with a shotgun start. There is a $60 entry fee with prizes being awarded for winning team and closest to pins. The winning team will share $200 prize money, $100 will go to the second place finishers and $50 will go to third. There will be prizes for closest to the pin, and the ball must be on the green, of course.
This tournament brings out the best and worst golfers that prize money can buy. If you decide to play and compete, it is an opportunity to play with the best and have a great time. Keep in mind there are no prizes for the farthest club thrown, drag racing golf carts or seeing how many golf balls you can keep hidden for the occasional, “OVER HERE, I FOUND IT.” golf quote. Big Bend course is not the easiest one to play but is playable for all skill levels. At Big Bend, a golfer can lose balls faster than a high diver in shallow water.
Win or not, this will be a great day of supporting the CCS Hall of Fame tradition. So, if you think you have what it takes to take on the best, sign up now. If you would like to sponsor a hole, the cost is $100. Give Larry Gillespie a call at 304-444-2530 if you want to play or donate.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. The Clay County Schools Hall of Fame recognizes the best of the best who have played sports at CCHS and have gone on to have significant impact in today’s world. Those being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year are Zach Ahart, Shannon Mclaughlin Demasi, Vivian Mullins, Abygail Smith and Jason Tucker, all of whom have demonstrated great dedication to their sport.
